Volunteer Opportunities at Because You Care

BYC is a volunteer organization. We rely on the dedication and talent of people willing to donate their time on a regular basis. Below are several ways in which people often donate their time and talents. If you have a talent that you'd like to offer and you think could be of help to us but your skill is not listed here, please let us know. Choose your top three favorite ways to help!

• Cat or Dog Center General Volunteer: assist with daily routine management of cats/dogs at the center. Involves feeding, walking, scooping litter boxes, and cleaning of cages/kennels and the environment, and giving tours of the center.
• Cat or Dog Center Enrichment Volunteer: assist with our enrichment program for our shelter friends. May involve making special treats or playing challenging games, or working with the shy animals...all geared to enrich their stay until they are adopted. 
• Event volunteer: Staff tables, sell merchandise, assist and help staff with some of the various events that are held throughout the year.  
• Fundraiser Organizing Committee Volunteer: Be a part of the excitement of creating and organizing a fundraiser from start to finish. 
• Vet clinic services:  Assist with appointments in the veterinary center during open hours.  Assist with monitoring and responding to emails/calls to the veterinary phone line if needed.

• Building Maintenance Volunteer: Are you handy? assist with the upkeep of the centers including maintenance and minor repairs.
• Grounds Maintenance Volunteer: Assist our grounds committee in keeping our yards looking maintained.  Involves removing weeds, mowing, and trimming trees/bushes.(seasonal volunteer)
• Transporting pets:
  Volunteers are sometimes needed to safely transport pets to appointments or to daycare/training sessions. Volunteers are also needed to drive weekly transports moving pets part of the way from overcrowded shelters to rescues, including BYC which involves meeting other transporters along the route or getting animals from airports who come to BYC via rescue flights.

Volunteers at the Cat Adoption Center must be 16 years of age or older.  
Volunteers at the Dog Adoption Center must be 18 years of age or older.

Please Note: Our minimum age to volunteer is 16 for the cat center and 18 for the dog center.
