Meet Our Ambassadors

Bum was surrendered to Because You Care in July 2023 along with his mom and two of his siblings.  Pretty soon into his time with us, his foster family noticed that he wasn't defecating or urinating like his siblings and that his abdomen had a very distended appearance.

The rest of his litter and his mom were fine but with the help of our wonderful veterinarians Bum, affectionally called Baby Bum, was diagnosed with Manx Syndrome.  Cats affected with Manx syndrome have a shortened spinal cord and may be missing the last few vertebrae.  Because of this Bum is incontinent, needs life long medication and a special diet in order to thrive.

If you've had the pleasure of meeting Bum you would know that he doesn't let his diability stop him at all.  He is the happiest, sweetest little dude around.

Bum serves as an ambassador for special needs pets - hoping to educate people and help to provide others cats with similiar disabilities a loving home by sharing his story.  When not at the adoption center, Bum lives with our cat center manager, Angela, and her family.

You can also follow Bum's adventures on social media!
